About EJ Herring & Son
In October 1985, EJ Herring launched an HVAC company built on integrity, craftsmanship, and family values—a place where a father and son could work together while serving communities across Maryland with honesty and skill. Rooted in a proud line of six generations of steamfitters, that small family operation has steadily grown and evolved over the decades, passing from one generation to the next.
Today, the company stands as a fourth-generation, women-owned, union shop, carrying forward more than 50 years of trusted service. In 2023, Anita Herring became the owner, holding 51% of the company, while her husband, Joseph Herring Sr.—a retired steamfitter who owns the remaining 49%—continues to be active in daily operations. Their son, Joseph Herring, now serves as Operations Manager, and his own son, Joseph Herring, is proudly continuing the family legacy through the Steamfitters Local 602 HVAC apprenticeship program.
